A long time ago there was a huge volcanic eruption and consequently the lake’s only outlet was cordoned off, which is why it is so isolated from other water bodies. The amazing thing about this lake is that even though it stands at an altitude of 5,380 ft. it never freezes because of its salinity. This lake is a natural wonder that was created by a devastating natural disaster and it may be the reason behind why a magnificent piece of history was buried deep within the waters of Lake Van.
