Poudretteite

Of all the special gemstones, the Poudretteite is one of the rarest. It was first discovered in Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec by the Poudrette family who owned a quarry in the area. Initially they were just able to find tiny crystals in the 1960s and it wasn’t till 2000 that the first sizable gem specimen was discovered all the way across the world in Mogok, Myanmar. The image above showcases probably the largest poudretteite gemstone and it is 9.41 carats. The gem is a beautiful subdued pink, but can also be found in a transparent violet shade. It costs $3000 per carat.
