If you know the American version of the Antiques Roadshow, you are probably familiar with David Weiss, a regular appraiser who has been in the auction field since 1988 and specialises in paintings, prints, and sculpture.
That particular day in 2013 however, David received a pretty special guest – a young boy passionate about antique dealing, who had brought a portrait he believed could sell for more money. Appraisers on the show were experts but they had to know and understand everything about the items they valued, and this kid coming a long way to get a second opinion on his $2 painting was going to be very interesting.
