One of the differences she experienced in Turkey is that people usually take off their shoes when they enter someone’s home. In fact, for most Turkish people it is unthinkable to keep your shoes when you’re at home. Besides, you have to take off your shoes when you enter a mosque since places of worship are communal, and therefore have to respect all worshippers’ beliefs and traditions.
