Even though it looks absolutely lovely, Maine is not a good place to retire according to its seniors, 65 or older, who are all moving out. According to some surveys, 4 in 10 people leave the state to go and retire somewhere else – probably somewhere with better weather, as it tends to get pretty cold in Maine.
Winters are the worst, say its inhabitants: they are as long and dark as in Iceland, but even colder and snowier. But summer isn’t great either, as it gets many bugs, particularly when you go inland. So get ready for a lot of insects, such as ticks, mosquitoes and flies, or other ones that might want your blood… Either in summer or in winter, Maine can get pretty inhospitable!
