Because there was such a growing and strong interest in the pockmarks, the scientists decided that they were going to try and find more about them by sending their robot, known as an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), to the seabed. But what happened was pretty unexpected. If they originally thought that the robot would bring them information about the strange holes, they didn’t expect the AUV to reveal very different things at the same time. And these new discoveries immediately created big concerns for them that they would never have imagined possible.
