However, this lady was close to both Charlie and Alan because she was their mother, Evelyn Harper. Holland Taylor did an exceptional job playing the doting mother. She had quite an interesting dynamic with her two sons, and their relationship was far from perfect, but she was one of the only women who really put them in their place, especially when they got a little out of control. Her sons may not have liked seeing her that often, but the viewers surely did.
