But being a retired gymnast doesn’t mean Retton put any pressure on her kids. On the contrary, McKenna said she didn’t feel pressured at all and commented: “I feel like people have a hard time believing that. You see Dance Moms, and you see how crazy those moms are, and you just assume that an Olympic champion would want her child to be like that”. Retton also explained her kids tried other sports such as softball, tee-ball and basketball, but gymnastics was always going to be on the list because “whether they stuck with it or not, gymnastics is a great base for any athletic activity”.
