This dazzling blue gemstone goes through an interesting journey to become the mineral that we see. Its composition consists of barium, titanium and silica and the gemstone is found in rocks that have gone through hydrothermal metamorphism. Benitoite was first found in California, in San Benito County, hence the name. This is the only location where gem-quality materials have been found, but smaller versions of the stone have been discovered in various parts of the world like Czech Republic, Japan, Romania and Australia. The rarer the gem, the more expensive and this gem comes at a price point of $4000 per carat.
